Most lenders cap tenure (e.g. 20–30 years for home loans). Check your lender's maximum before relying on this figure.

Most loan calculators start with tenure and solve for EMI. This one works the other way: enter the EMI you can comfortably afford each month, and find out how long it will take to clear the loan.

This is especially useful when a lender offers a fixed EMI slot, or when you're budgeting from your monthly cash flow first and working backward to a loan structure.

How This Calculator Works

Solved by rearranging the EMI formula for n: n = ln(EMI / (EMI − P×r)) / ln(1+r). If your EMI doesn't exceed the interest-only payment, the loan can never be fully repaid, and the calculator will flag this.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my EMI is too low to ever repay the loan?
If your chosen EMI is less than or equal to the first month's interest, the outstanding balance never actually goes down. The calculator will let you know the minimum EMI needed to make progress on the principal.
Do lenders let you choose your own tenure this freely?
Not always — most Indian lenders offer tenures in fixed increments (e.g. whole years) and cap the maximum tenure (commonly 20–30 years for home loans, shorter for personal loans). Use this as a planning estimate.
